Trimble County Criminal Court Cases
Trimble District Court hears misdemeanors, traffic matters, violations, and the first steps in a felony prosecution. A felony can begin with a District Court complaint and preliminary proceedings, then move to Trimble Circuit Court after indictment. Circuit Court is the felony trial court. The two stages may carry different numbers, so matching only a name can hide part of the same prosecution. Kentucky case numbers commonly include the year, a case-type code such as CR for Circuit Criminal, and a sequence number.
One Office of Circuit Court Clerk serves both courts. Stacy M. Bruner's staff keeps the local criminal dockets, pleadings, orders, judgments, and sentencing records at 30 Highway 42 East in Bedford. The elected county clerk at that address handles land, vehicle, marriage, election, and other county records, not Trimble County criminal court cases. The sheriff also works from the courthouse, but an agency report is separate from the judicial file.
The Kentucky Court of Justice Trimble County page identifies the correct court, clerk, calendar, and contact route.
That official court source helps a reader distinguish the District and Circuit records kept at the same Bedford counter.
Trimble Criminal Records Lines
The clerk publishes two direct lines because the court level matters. Call 502-255-3525 for District Court and 502-255-3213 for Circuit Criminal or Civil matters. The fax number is 502-255-4953. The counter is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A case number is the strongest key. If it is unknown, give the full name, an approximate year, and whether the matter began as a misdemeanor, traffic case, or felony complaint.
Ask for the exact paper that answers the question. A complaint or citation states the initial accusation. An indictment states the felony charges returned by the grand jury. A docket lists procedural events, while a judgment and sentencing order state the outcome and sentence. The clerk, not a search-result screen, can confirm whether a specific document is available and whether a copy can be certified.
Searching Trimble County Case Records
Start locally when the goal is a signed order or a complete Trimble County criminal case file. CourtNet holds public case information from all 120 Kentucky counties, but broad direct access is an account product for approved users. Public readers generally use current Find a Case or Find a Court Date tools, obtain an AOC report, or contact the clerk. Guest access may omit disposed matters. An empty result therefore does not prove that no case exists.
- Decide whether the Trimble County matter belongs in District Court or Circuit Court and note any case number.

The official CourtNet information page describes the statewide database behind these public case tools.
CourtNet is a locator and statewide data layer, while the Trimble County clerk remains the source for the actual trial-court document.
Trimble County Archived Case Records
Older Trimble County court cases require a clerk-first route. For a file about 15 to 35 years old, the clerk may direct the request to the State Records Center. That archive cannot search stored boxes by a person's name or Social Security number. The clerk must first provide both the case number and the file-locator number. A reader who contacts the archive without those keys may reach a dead end even though the record survives.
Files 36 years old or older may be routed through the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. Retention rules also mean that a clerk can report that a file was destroyed. In that event, ask what docket index, order, appellate record, prosecutor record, or agency report still exists. Each is a different record, and none should be described as a substitute for a missing signed judgment.
The Kentucky judiciary's trial-court records request instructions explain why requests for Trimble County files must begin with the local clerk.
The request route preserves the link between the stored material and the clerk's local case and locator numbers.
Inside a Trimble County Case File
A Trimble County criminal case file records what the Commonwealth filed and what the judge did. It can show a charge as first stated, later amended, dismissed, or resolved. A CourtNet summary may list the county, case number, charge, date, and disposition, but the clerk file holds the source papers. Missing data may reflect a pending matter, an older paper file, reporting lag, expungement, or an identity mismatch. Obtain the underlying order before drawing a conclusion.
| Case number and court | Year, case type, sequence, District or Circuit division, filing date, status, and assigned judge |

Trimble Complaints and Indictments
A complaint is not an indictment. Trimble District Court can hold the complaint, initial appearance, bond record, and preliminary felony steps. The grand jury meets on the first Friday at 8:00 a.m. A felony that proceeds can then receive a Circuit Court CR number after indictment. That timing creates a common search gap: the District record may exist before a connected Circuit record appears.
Trimble County Attorney Crystal L. Heinz handles District Court prosecution functions. Commonwealth's Attorney Courtney Baxter's office handles felony prosecution in the 12th Judicial Circuit. Internal prosecutor files are not the court docket. For the public procedural record, ask the clerk. The third-Thursday Circuit Criminal calendar at 9:00 a.m. and the Tuesday District calendar at 9:00 a.m. can explain when docket activity clusters, but schedules may change and should be confirmed.
The official Kentucky legal forms catalog provides current court forms rather than unofficial copies.
Current forms support a valid filing, but they do not replace the clerk's docket or a judge's signed order.
How a Criminal Case Moves
A Trimble County prosecution can change court levels and charge language as it develops. Initial allegations do not lock in the final offense. District Court handles the first felony proceedings, the grand jury decides whether to indict, and Circuit Court handles the felony after indictment. Misdemeanors generally remain in District Court. Pleas, trials, dismissals, and amendments all appear through docket entries and orders.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Read the flow with the documents and the current 12th Judicial Circuit local rules. The charging paper identifies the accusation. Motions and orders show what changed. The judgment supplies the disposition, and the sentencing order states the court's terms. A later probation-revocation event or warrant can add entries without changing the original conviction. This is why the final dated order matters more than a single line from an early docket event.
Trimble County Federal Court Records
Trimble County lies in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. A federal prosecution does not appear as a Trimble Circuit Court criminal case. PACER is the official federal account and docket system. It searches by case number, party, and court and charges 10 cents per page in 2026, usually capped at $3 for one document or case-specific report. Billing is waived when quarterly use is $30 or less.
The PACER service provides the official federal docket route.
PACER should be searched separately when the investigating or prosecuting authority is federal rather than Kentucky or Trimble County. The Eastern District jurisdiction page confirms the federal court layer serving Trimble County.
That jurisdiction source helps prevent a federal docket search from being misdirected to the local Bedford clerk.
Case Record Access & Restrictions
Kentucky judicial files are requested through the clerk's court-record process, not through a routine executive-agency open-records request to AOC. The Administrative Office of the Courts is not the custodian of a Trimble County trial-court file. A public AOC report is a CourtNet-based summary and says it is “Not an Official Court Record.” It also omits expunged or purged cases. Use the signed local file for a decisive question about a disposition or sentence.
Juvenile matters, sealed or expunged cases, protected identifiers, victim information, and some attachments can be withheld or redacted. Lack of an online result can also mean a case is archived, disposed and hidden from guest access, filed under a different court number, or still too new for a complete statewide match. Call the Trimble County clerk before treating silence as proof that nothing exists.
Trimble Court Record Formats
A reader may need inspection, an ordinary paper copy, a certified copy, audio, or video. Those products answer different needs. The researched court schedule lists a 25-cent per-page copy charge, $5 for certification, $15 for audio, and $25 for video, but the clerk should confirm the current amount, available medium, and remote-order method before payment. The office accepts cash, check, credit card, and money order, with online ePay for eligible obligations.
Certification authenticates a clerk copy. It does not change the content. Audio and video depend on whether the court created and retained the recording and whether access restrictions apply. Name the exact hearing date and case number when requesting media. For a routine outcome check, begin with the docket and signed judgment so the order does not become buried in a broader request.
